UPDATE: Sony has resolved the issue as of late last night. Those of you who are still having clock problems should reset the times manually. On a side now, I played on my 360 all night last night bwahahaha!!!
Owners of older PlayStation 3 consoles should not connect their unit the the PlayStation Network. As of right now, those that do will fall prey to a network error that will keep your console from being able to connect for online play. The issue seems to only effect owners of non-Slim PlayStations.
Sony is aware of the issue and wrote an update on their blog regarding the issue:
We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.
Errors include:
- The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.
- When the user tries to sign in to the PlayStation Network, the following
message appears on the screen; “An error has occurred. You have been
signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”.
- When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears
on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install
trophies. Please exit your game.”
- When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the
Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date
and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)”
- Users are not able to play back certain rental video downloaded from the
PlayStation Store before the expiration date.
We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.

GameStop has started rolling out a TV ad this week informing us of their latest ploy to get you to spend cash at their stores. And I like what the ad has to say (for once). From now until March 14th you’ll get an extra 50% on every trade-in you bring to their store. Use your Edge card and you can sweeten the deal with an extra 10%.
Of course as usual newer games will net you bigger paybacks so keep that in mind. With a lot of great games having been released already and even more on the way this will help keep you from selling drugs to support your gaming habit, and that’s a good thing.

In a time when BioShock 2, FIFA 10, New Super Mario Bros and even Modern Warfare 2 are all vying for your hard earned cash the number one game in all of the United kingdom is…Aliens vs. Predator?! Really UK, really?!
The sci-fi shooter definitely had some stiff competition but it still managed to take the top spot. It’s worth noting that it came in number one ahead of Just Dance, so this may give you some insight into what kind of games are popular across the pond.
I found the game to be disappointing and never really got into it, you can try it out for yourself if you haven’t already. The multiplayer demo is available for download on Xbox Live.
Hit the break to see the top 20 games.

Avid gamer or not, chances are you’ve probably stumbled across this video already. It spread like herpes at a Lindsay Lohan sex party over the weekend. In the clip it appears that an Xbox Live moderator with the Gamertag “The Pro” (real whitty) passes out bans like flu vaccines at a nursing home. Get on his bad side and you can kiss your XBL privileges goodbye for a little while.
Hit the break to check out the video.

Xbox Live’s Major Nelson released his weekly activity report for Xbox Live yesterday. I was a little surprised by some of the new entries making their way towards the top of the list. Two of the five games played on Xbox Live last week were actually just demos. Both the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Aliens vs Predator demos did quite well, helping to knock FIFA 10 and Call of Duty 4 out of the top five.
Hit the break to see the top ten played games last week.

Take a look in any gaming forum or comment section of a gaming site and your likely to stumble upon heated debates between gamers who think Modern Warfare 2 is the greatest thing since free porn and those who just can’t stand it. Because of it’s huge popularity it’s become quite the polarizing subject, almost as heated as the Xbox 360 vs. the Playstation 3 debate. People have taken sides and mud is being slung. I’ll give my two cents on the subject…because my opinion is the only one that matters.
Hit the break to find out what changes I’d like to seen made.

EA’s skateboarding sim Skate knocked Tony Hawk off his pedestal (sorry Tony but your last few games were garbage) back in 2007 and hasn’t look back since. It’s kept gamers and skateboarding fans flicking their analog sticks and injuring thumbs with it’s sequel Skate 2. Now EA is getting us all riled up again with a plethora of new screens for the latest entry into the franchise Skate 3.
Hit the break to check out more screen shots. They’ll make you want to chug some Mountain Dew and say the word “extreme” a lot. You know, like real skaters do.

Microsoft’s Deal of the Week this week let’s you get your hands on Battlefield 1943 for 50% off. From now until February 22nd you’ll only have to fork over 800 Microsoft Points (around $10). It’s money well spent if you want to take a breather from Modern Warfare 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Bioshock 2 or any other great game that has a two in the title.
Besides, going kamikaze with a zero on unsuspecting enemy troops on the ground is a great way to find inner peace.

EA’s real-time strategy series Command & Conquer will get it’s next sequel next month with Command & Conquer 4. And to get you back in the swing of things the publisher is releasing three classic C&C games as freeware. Freeware means it’s free, you don’t have to pay anything for it. Free is good.
For $0.00 you can get your strategic paws on Tiberian Dawn, Tiberian Sun (including the Firestorm expansion), and Red Alert. Now you may run into issues running the older games on your newer PC but I’m including some links below to give you a hand.

As I mentioned a few days ago in this post Infinity Ward submitted a patch to Microsoft last week that would fix some ridiculously annoying exploits in Modern Warfare 2. Today an update fixing those problems was rolled out. If you haven’t been prompted to download the update yet (I did earlier today) you will in the next few hours or so.
Here are the problems the patch should take care of:
- Care Package, Emergency Airdrop, and Sentry Gun marker grenades sprint speed normalized.
- Fix for “infinite care package” exploit.
- Sentry Guns: Improved placement detection, preventing cases of Sentry Guns inside geometry.
- Model 1887: Bling using Akimbo and FMJ combination now has same range and damage as non-Bling Model 1887s.
- Fixes to prevent various XP hacks (including the prevention of negative XP)
It looks like it’ll be safe to play some Modern Warfare 2 again. It’s good to see Infinity Ward does what it can to get these glitches taken care of. Running into players with the Akimbo Model 1887 was never fun. Well at least if you were on the losing end of them anyway.

Microsoft announced today that Remedy Entertainment will not be releasing a PC version of AlanWake, their upcoming eerie thriller. The announcement comes just months before the game’s release, and with no PC version in the works this would make Alan Wake a Xbox 360 exclusive.
A Microsoft spokesperson elaborated on the decision yesterday:
“Some games are more suited for the intimacy of the PC, and others are best played from the couch in front of a larger TV screen. We ultimately realised that the most compelling way to experience “Alan Wake” was on the Xbox 360 platform, so we focused on making it an Xbox 360 exclusive. Both Microsoft and Remedy have long histories in PC game development. This decision was about matching this specific game to the right platform.”
Alan Wake will be released on May 18th on Xbox 360. Assuming they don’t cancel that version too.
