There were more than 50,000 people playing. The host said he didn't have stats for more than just 50,000, which probably meant it was capped there. I would recommend putting a reminder on the next game and getting on at least 5 minutes before hand. As soon as I saw the reminder, I clicked play 1 Vs 100 and that worked for me. I think they only have one room per session during the beta. If you aren't the main contestant or didn't make it on in time to be one of the 100, then you couldn't play because the room is full.
