We can all agree that the Spider-Man franchise has gone stale in recent years. Some might say in film as well as gaming. Three titles in the franchise have been released in the last five years. Web of Shadows, Friend or Foe and Battle for New York have all come and gone. None of which received stellar reviews and all suffered from dismal sales figures. But Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has an explanation.
In a recent interview with Game Informer he admits that they all just “sucked”.
“Our Spider-Man games have sucked for the last five years. They are bad games. They were poorly rated because they were bad games. We went away from what is Spider-Man. It’s about web-slinging. If you don’t do web-slinging, what is the fantasy of Spider-Man?”
It’s nice to see that Kotick has an eye for what sucks and what doesn’t. Hopefully he can help get the franchise back on track in all of it’s web slinging glory. We’ll have to wait and see though. No new Spider-Man titles have been announced as of yet. And with production coming to a halt on the next film, Spidey fans will just have to wait to get their next fix. Sucky or not.
