Borderlands RSVPs for October release

borderlands1

It looks like the previously announced ship date for Borderlands will hold true, and the game will release for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and the PC on October 20 in the US and on October 23 for you blokes in the UK.

It’s been a long strange trip for this highly anticipated “role-playing” shooter, but it looks like we’ll get our hands on it soon enough. 2K Games originally announced the game back in 2007 and has gone through a visual overhaul trading in the original gritty look and feel for something of a more comic book style. I have to admit I was extremely skeptical if the art direction would work but it really looks like 2K Games and Gearbox have pulled it off.

And if you think the developers are worried about going up against Uncharted 2, it doesn’t seem to be the case. In an interview with GameSpot 2K Games president Christoph Hartmann didn’t sound too shook up.

“I don’t think we have to be afraid of competition or shy of what’s out there,” said Hartmann, confidently. “I think this holiday season is a little bit lighter in triple-A games than last year. It’s actually a good holiday to put something out. … There’s always risk and opportunity. The risk is you have a hard time standing out against established IP. The opportunity is you have a lot of traffic here and it can be a much bigger product at retail than it would be otherwise.”

I’m really looking forward to picking up Badlands this fall (along with an insane amount of other good titles). This game boasts more than 500,000 randomly generated guns. Like, that’s a lot…

Bioshock 2 Multiplayer details

As E3 gets closer details about big time releases are starting to trickle out. Today is no exception, with a few details about Bioshock 2’s multiplayer being released by 2K Games. In a press release today 2K’s Cristoph Hartmann had this to say:

“The fans asked for a multiplayer experience and we answered, with Digital Extremes delivering a multiplayer experience for BioShock 2 that features all of the things that made BioShock unique, we’re holding ourselves up to a high standard so that we can deliver the depth and variety that fans of the BioShock universe demand.”

The multiplayer will act as a prequel to the actual game. Taking you to Rapture before it was demolished. Playing as Plasmid test subjects, you will progress through the mode to uncover the fate of Rapture. And it will also include experience points to help you unlock different plasmids, tonics and new weapons. Some areas from the previous Bioshock will probably also be available giving you some surroundings you will be used to.

Other details will probably be available at 2K game’s E3 presentation so check back for further details.

How many of you are looking forward to another go around in Rapture?
