Activision admits that recent Spider-Man games “sucked”

We can all agree that the Spider-Man franchise has gone stale in recent years. Some might say in film as well as gaming. Three titles in the franchise have been released in the last five years. Web of Shadows, Friend or Foe and Battle for New York have all come and gone. None of which received stellar reviews and all suffered from dismal sales figures. But Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has an explanation.

In a recent interview with Game Informer he admits that they all just “sucked”.

Modern Warfare 2 myths put to the test

What if the show Mythbusters took their current gig into the digital realm? Testing out weird game glitches and physics inaccuracies? Well they haven’t done it yet, and they probably won’t anytime soon. But luckily defendthehouse.com has and we all get to sit back and enjoy.

They’ve posted a couple of videos on YouTube testing out certain myths about Modern Warfare 2 gameplay. Some are well known while others were new to me. Posted above is the second installment in the series, to check out their first vid head to their original post and check it out.

Here are the top Xbox Live games of 2009

Major Nelson has released Xbox Live’s top played and downloaded games of 2009. And not surprisingly it looks like Halo 3 was king of the hill.

There are other tid bits of interesting info to gather from the list though. Modern Warfare 2, which had only been out for less than two months before the year ended made the top three. Impressive. As a matter of fact, Activision walked away with having three out of the top five titles for the year. Although they were all Call of Duty titles.

Of course the king of Arcade titles last year was Battlefield 1943. Even if it’s launch was way less than picture perfect, it still ran away with the top honors by far. Castle Crashers and Trials HD rounded out the top three.

Keep reading to see the top 10’s in each Xbox 360 category.

Amber Alert: Call of Duty title is missing!

hardened

By now everyone knows about the Prestige Edition of Modern Warfare 2. The internet was set ablaze by the video showcasing the functioning night vision goggles that are included with the package. If you haven’t seen what I’m talking about go to the homepage and take a look.

While you are watching take a look and see if you can notice anything missing? Besides the fact that a price is never mentioned (probably because it’s going to kick your wallet in the taint), not one of the products shown has Call of Duty in the title. It’s nowhere to be seen. Missing in action.

Are Infinity Ward and Activision still not seeing eye to eye when it comes to the game’s branding? Just a few days ago Activision made a statement reinforcing the fact that it will indeed feature COD in the title. And you can see it on the box are below:

Is Infinity Ward putting their foot down? And if so what will be the repercussions from Activision? Oh the drama!

Modern Warfare 2 makes nice with Call of Duty title again

It looks like the break up between Activision’s Modern Warfare 2 and the Call of Duty title have made up. I saw them at the movies last night and they were all over eachother.
Screenshots for the new box art have made their way to the web showcasing the Call of Duty badge.Something that wasn’t expected after Activision made it a point to remove the moniker from the game’s title a few months ago.
Activision had this to say:
“Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 2 is the direct sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare,” a spokesperson told Kotaku. “We have focused our attention on Modern Warfare in order to most effectively communicate the fact that this is the first true sequel in the Call of Duty series. Infinity Ward, the original creators of the Call of Duty franchise, has said from the beginning Modern Warfare 2 resides in the Call of Duty universe. This is reflected in the title’s package.”
It’s interesting to see Infinity Ward and Activision make this move. I think Infinity Ward really wanted to lose the Call of Duty title so consumers wouldn’t confuse them with Treyarch who also developes Call of Duty games for Activision.
Activision may have laid down the law on this one.

New Call of Duty: World at War maps coming in June

Dust off your STG’s and M1’s. Activision and Treyarch announced today that they are working on some new DLC for a June release date.

The second map pack to be released for the game will aptly be named…wait for it…the Call of Duty: World at War Map Pack 2. Hopefully they are working harder on the maps than they are that title.

The DLC will include three new multiplayer maps. “Bonzai,” which is set in a plush jungle setting riddled with hidden caves; “Sub Pen,” which will be set at a submarine base; and “Corrosion,”  which will put you in the middle of a Russian train yard.

And last but certainly not least, there will also be an additional co-op Nazi Zombie map! Called “Shi No Numa,” the new map will feature a new weapon, new Achievements / Trophies and new Perks. Oh yea did I mention flaming Hell Hounds? ‘Cause we’ll be getting some of those too.

UPDATE: Some new images were posted at callofduty.com that you might find useful if you are big into strategizing. Overhead layouts of all three new maps. That combined with the gameplay videos they have also posted should be a big help in helping you and your teammates getting the upper hand. You can check out the overhead layouts here.
