Snag Battlefield 1943 for only 800 Microsoft Points

Microsoft’s Deal of the Week this week let’s you get your hands on Battlefield 1943 for 50% off. From now until February 22nd you’ll only have to fork over 800 Microsoft Points (around $10). It’s money well spent if you want to take a breather from Modern Warfare 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Bioshock 2 or any other great game that has a two in the title.

Besides, going kamikaze with a zero on unsuspecting enemy troops on the ground is a great way to find inner peace.

Battlefield 1943 Coral Sea unlocked

BF1943coralseascreen

In less than a week over 43 million people found themselves on the wrong end of a gun while playing Battlefield 1943. The good news? At least getting butchered unlocked the new Coral Sea map along with the new Air Superiority mode. This new map and mode will give you carrier campers a serious hard-on.

The map itself consists of four carriers (two enemy and two friendly) and it’s dotted with small mountain top islands. Perfect for ducking and dodging from enemy planes. Which is great because you’ll need to. The sky will be dense with aircraft of friend and foe alike. Definitely a “target rich environment” right Goose!?

The fellas at EA were nice enough to let the whole world know who the 43 millionth kill was: James (jkasapi on XBL). For publicly embarrassing him EA will be giving him some Battlefield 1943 gear like sunglasses, a shirt and even custom Battlefield 1943 sneakers. Maybe an in-game bulletproof vest would have been a better choice?

Enjoy the new map and mode, channel your inner Maverick and start pelting those bogeys with bullets!

Battlefield 1943 is out today. Goodluck trying to play it

UPDATE VER 3.0: Late into last night and this morning it appears that everything is alright. They are still in the process of adding servers but I’ve been getting through OK. You might have to try more than once though.

UPDATE VER 2.0: It looks like I just got lucky earlier. Connecting to games still take a while. EA acknowledges the issue and posted an update letting us know that extra servers will be coming online shortly. Apparently they are getting a lot more traffic then they planned on. I’ll update you guys (hopefully for the last time) on when everything is running smoothly again.

UPDATE: As of 2:00pm EST the servers are back up. There may be a few snags connecting to games but if you try a few times you should get through. I’ve played a few rounds and I’m impressed. So far so good!

Five days ago I reported that Battlefield 1943 would be releasing early and coming out today. And it did. Although I couldn’t find it listed on Xbox Live Marketplace anywhere you can go to Major Nelson’s blog to add the game to your download queue.

I purchased the game and downloaded it. But unfortunately EA is still adding extra servers so connecting to games is almost impossible. I’ve been periodically trying to join matches over the last hour with no luck. I’ll update you guys when the servers are up and running again.

Has anyone out there had better luck than I have?

DICE’s sequel to Battlefield 1942 will be coming out sooner then expected. Like next week soon.

It will make it’s console debut on July 8th on Xbox Live and the next day on the Playstation Network. And at a bargain $14.99 (or 1200 Microsoft points) you don’t really have any excuse not to buy it!

Finally an excuse to take a break from Call of Duty 4 and Call of Duty World at War!

Check out the trailer below. It should hold you over until it’s release dates next Wednesday and Thursday.
