Metal Gear Solid:Rising update

I first reported to you back on June 1 that Metal Gear Solid: Rising would be coming to the Xbox 360. This announcement was one of the highlights of Microsoft’s keynote speech during the opening day of E3 2009. However, painfully absent from the announcement  were details if it would be an exclusive or not. Three days later we now have an answer.

Metal Gear Solid: Rising will be releasing for the Playstation 3, PC and the already announced Xbox 360.

“Even more gamers can [now] immerse themselves in the franchise and experience the ground breaking series as Metal Gear Solid: Rising heads to the platform of their choice.” says Martin Scheider of Konami Europe.

The Metal Gear franchise is coming to Xbox

The title says it all.

During Microsoft’s keynote speech at E3, Hideo Kojima made the announcement today that the next installment in the Metal Gear series will be coming to the Xbox 360 . The game, which will be titled “Metal Gear Solid: Rising” will feature Raiden as the main character. A short trailer was shown but no other details were released during the speech.

This is not good news for Sony. Although it’s doubtful that the game will be a 360 exclusive, it’s still a major victory for Microsoft.

Anthony Crouts, Vice President of Marketing for Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. had this to say:

“The Metal Gear Solid series is one of the most highly acclaimed video game franchises of all time. With Metal Gear Solid: Rising, the Xbox 360 community will finally get a chance to enjoy the action and excitement that this popular franchise is known to offer.”

Is this big news to you Xbox fanboys? How about you Playstation fans?

New Metal Gear:Online shenanigans

If you are having fun enjoying the recently released SCENE expansion pack than you’ll love this. Konami has a new game mode and feature on the way that should make your groin tickle. And the good news? Even if you haven’t bothered to fork over the cash for the previous three expansion packs for MGO (cheap bastard), the new features and modes will still be available to you.

The new game mode is called “Race Mission” and will be available May 12th. Here’s Playstaion’s explanation of it:

“This mode pits two teams against each other, with the Blue Team searching for and protecting the KEROTAN target, and the Red Team searching for and protecting the GA-KO target. Each time a team passes a check point with its target in hand, a new checkpoint will be generated. If a team drops its target and the target is not retrieved within a set period of time, the target’s position will be reset and the checkpoint will change.”

This sounds like a blast. A new spin on the “capture the flag” mode. This could make out for some fun drawn out battles!

The new feature headed your way May 26th could tip matches into your favor, or make you want to throw your controller out the window. Here’s what PlayStation has to say on the new “Patriot” feature:

“This feature will select a few lucky players every week starting from the 26th, and give them exclusive access to a 5.56mm Hand Rifle with infinite ammunition and no reload. Players will have access to these unique “Patriot” features until the next ranking update.”

The people who are awarded this feature every week will be picked at random. And unless I’m picked I’ll hate it. There is no word yet if there will be a way to tell who has the “Patriot” feature yet. So there may be no way to who everyone should gang up on at first. But you know if you have this unlocked you’ll be laughing the entire match. No reloads FTW!

What do you guys think of the new mode and feature? Any thoughts?

Developer speaks out on “Six Days in Fallujah” drama

Peter Tamte CEO of Atomic Games, the developer working on Six Days in Fallujah (before Konami pulled out) recently said a few words to the Raleigh News & Observer defending the developer’s decision to make the game.

He had this to say:

“Every form of media has grown by producing content about current events, content that’s powerful because it’s relevant. Movies, music and TV have helped people make sense of the complex issues of our times.

Are we really just high-tech toymakers, or are we media companies capable of producing content that is as relevant as movies, music and television?

This is what brought us close to many of the Marines who fought in Fallujah. After they got back from Fallujah, these Marines asked us to tell their story. They asked us to tell their story through the most relevant medium of the day — a medium they use the most — and that is the video game.

Six Days in Fallujah is not about whether the U.S. and its allies should have invaded Iraq. It’s an opportunity for the world to experience the true stories of the people who fought in one of the world’s largest urban battles of the past half-century.”

Atomic has been sketchy about this whole situation. Since development began on this Atomic Games kept repeating the fact that it was the Marines who came to them, giving them the idea for the game. A fact that we now know is false. Destineer, the parent company of Atomic, filed for the trademark just three months after the major fighting in Fallujah was over in 2004. Marines would have still been deployed.

And let’s not forget the fact that Atomic games asked actual insurgents to contribute to the game. Ridiculous. It seems every step of the way Atomic Games did they best they could at doing their worst. And now they are surprised that Konami pulled the plug?

Six Days in Fallujah might get finished?

Here’s some news to go along with a story I brought to you yesterday.

After Konami released a statement telling the world that they were dropping Six Days In Fallujah like a bad crack habit, Atomic Games released a statement today saying the following:

‘We were informed on Thursday night that Konami had decided to pull out of Six Days in Fallujah. This caught us by surprise. Development of the game had been progressing very well and on schedule. We would very much like the opportunity to complete the game.’

Nice going Konami. Way to keep everyone in the loop.

Konami is that dude that invites you to a party, but doesn’t tell you it is a Xena: Warrior Princess themed party. So now you show up looking all stupid in just your WHAM t-shirt and shorts. Yeah you are that guy Konami. Not cool. Not cool at all.

I’ll keep checking up on this in case anything new surfaces. Check back!

“Six Days In Fallujah” gets canned?

According to G4TV’s The Feed, a Korean site Asahi is reporting that Konami has scrapped it’s development of their true story shooter Six Days In Fallujah.

The site quoted a Konami public relations official as say:

“After seeing the reaction to the videogame in the United States and hearing opinions sent through phone calls and e-mail, we decided several days ago not to sell it. We had intended to convey the reality of the battles to players so that they could feel what it was like to be there.”

The game did stir some contreversey once peace activists and some veteran’s groups got wind of the game’s development. But was it enough to stop development of the game altogether?

What no Swahili Konami? You are so racist.

The update will set you back about 10mb of phone memory bringing the total for both versions to 137mb.
