The PSP Go almost had two analog sticks

For fans or previous PSP’s we were all hoping the PSP Go would feature something it’s predecessors didn’t, a second analog stick. But alas it wasn’t in the cards. We all had to make do with one again and a ridiculously high price tag (am i right UK?!).

But in the new issue of Game Informer Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida explains their rationale for not adding said stick:

“We also felt — like many users — that we wish we had a second analog on the PSP. But we are talking about the mid-life cycle of this platform, and the PSP Go is designed to be perfectly compatible with the PSP-3000 and all the games that released before that. So we had a very serious discussion about this particular subject, but we decided not to add a second analog, and some of the developers are doing quite a nice job translating the second analog functionality to different buttons. We didn’t want to divert their efforts either.”

Although the reasoning behind the decision is sound, that still doesn’t mean it doesn’t suck. I wonder why they consider the PSP to be in mid-cycle? The new cycle could have easily been started with the PSP go.

Oh well. Here’s hoping that whenever this cycle ends, they start the next cycle acknowledging that we have two thumbs.

Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines gets bundled

acpsp2

Sony has put together something pretty swell for you Assassin’s Creed fans. The new PSP title Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines will be bundled with a new Limited Edition PSP Entertainment Pack.

The package includes:

  • White PSP-3000 system
  • Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines PSP game
  • UMD Movie (to be announced shortly!)
  • 2GB Memory Stick PRO Duo

All of this will be available in November for a retail price of only $199.99. The PSP alone goes for $169.99 so you are getting the game, UMD movie and memory stick for a measly $30 extra.

Hell, it still beats shelling out $249.99 for the new PSP Go. Cough (ripoff) cough.

You should also be aware of an interesting feature for those of you who will be picking up Assassin’s Creed 2 for the Playstation 3 as well. Frederic Lefrancois, a producer for the game has elaborated on a connectivity feature between the PSP and PS3 titles saying “As players unlock health and Hidden blade upgrades in Assassin’s Creed 2 PS3, the same upgrades will be unlocked in Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines. It also works the other way round: on the PS3 you will be able to access any Templar Coins and special weapons you’ve collected on the PSP.” A nice plus for fans who own both titles. Kudos!

Below is the newest Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines trailer. Enjoy.

Sony reveals the super secret PSP Go

Can you sense my charming sarcasm in that title? Huh can you!?

Today during Sony’s E3 press conference they confirmed what we already knew. The existence of the PSP Go.

All of the specs that had been leaked earlier in the week turned out to be accurate. It’s half the size of the original PSP and also weighing in at 40% lighter than it’s electronic relative. It will be packaged with 16 gigabytes of flash memory and feature a slide out controller. Making it easier and more comfortable to play than the 3000 series. It will also feature wi-fi connectivity and have access to the PlayStation Network.

The only real downer during the announcement was the price. A hefty $249 in the US. That means it will cost almost $70 more than it’s core counterpart.

Are you willing to fork over that kind of cash for your portable console?

Deadpool joining Marvel Ultimate Alliance ranks

That’s right. Deadpool will be appearing in Activision’s follow up to 2006’s Marvel Ultimate Alliance.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 puts you knee deep in a super-hero civil war. Because of public outcry after a battle between super heroes and super villains causes the deaths of 600 people,  the government passes the Super Hero Registration Act. Now those with super powers are split into two factions, those for the Registration Act and those against.

Which side will you chose?

The game will be out sometime during the fall of 2009 for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Playstation 2, PSP, Wii and DS.

New SOCOM PSP video

The Playstation Blog just posted a new trailer for the upcoming SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 3 game for PSP and it looks pretty sweet. Lets hope the developers over at Slant Six Games can fix the notorious broken controls the SOCOM franchise can’t seem to shake. But having such a heavy duty shooter in the palm of your hand can’t really leave you much to complain about. We’ll have to wait and see how it all turns out when it releases. No date or price has been set yet.

You can check out the video here.
